Next generation digital supply chains – Session Report

In September 2020, members of the Digital Leadership Forum met over Zoom to discuss Next generation digital supply chains.

Representatives from leading organisations including Unilever, AstraZeneca, EDF Energy, Highways England, BDO, First Rate Exchange Services, McKinsey & Company, Everledger and many more came together to discuss how supply chain management will become increasingly more efficient and transparent.

The session began with a presentation by François Soubien, Partner at McKinsey & Company who explored how they can test and learn with new supply chain technologies and understand how advancements with automation, IoT and advanced analytics are transforming the supply chain function towards a dynamic, self-operating flow of goods and services.

We then heard from Evgeny Gokhberg, Head of Europe & Head of Commercials at Everledger on how they are using blockchain technology to sustainably track and register products such as diamonds, minerals, wines and high-value art.

Designing a mobile-first CX strategy – Session Report

In August 2020, members of the Digital Leadership Forum met over Zoom to discuss ‘Designing a mobile-first CX strategy’.

Representatives from leading organisations including including Unilever, BT, AXA Investment Managers, Coutts, Sky, GSK, Royal London, Natwest, AXA PPP Healthcare, Eurodiet, Selesti and more gained the latest insights into how to respond to today’s growth in mobile app usage, by exploring how to develop a mobile-first strategy.

First, we heard from Emma Ledger, Digital Product Owner at Sky who provided insights into implementing a successful mobile-first CX strategy and why it’s so important. Emma stated the importance of embedding a mobile-CX strategy from day one and letting it lead and shape your product ideation. If a customer’s first experience of digital is a positive one, they’re more likely to try digital again in the future.

Next, we heard from Coutts’ Ashleigh Calderwood, Digital Design Manager, Sandra Mileikyte, UX Director and Sean Hook, User Experience Designer who co-presented on the topic of ‘Launching a New App during a Global Pandemic’. The key theme of the presentation is that inclusivity is key to remaining human centric during pandemic. Attendees gained insights on improving digital experience, the importance of human centred design in the current crisis, and how to test your ideas with end users remotely.

In August 2020, members of the Digital Leadership Forum met over Zoom to discuss ‘Building meaningful connections with social media’.

Representatives from leading organisations including Lloyds Banking Group, Unilever, AXA PPP Healthcare, Baker McKenzie, GSK, EDF Energy, Freshfields, Refinitiv, Octopus Investments, BT, Highways England, The Royal Mint, Decathlon and more gained practical tips and guidance on the tangible steps businesses can take to evolve their online community.

We heard from Dominique Elsey, Industry Marketing Strategist and Alexandra Crichton, EMEA Programmes Strategist from Hootsuite who discussed how brands are shifting their content strategy, and rethinking their social metrics in a new world.

Attendees gained valuable insights into how to build a strong community with social listening and paid social and the steps to take in order to build genuine relationships that last.

In July 2020, members of the Digital Leadership Forum met over Zoom to discuss ‘How can you fuel your agility post COVID-19?’

Representatives from leading organisations including Lloyds Banking Group, EDF Energy, Baker McKenzie, LV=, Octopus Investments, BDO, Coutts, First Rate Exchange Services, Chaucer Group, Blue Dome, ViiV Healthcare, BiZZdesign and more discussed how agile business models are becoming a critical path to survival and success in the wake of the current crisis.

Andrew Humphries, Co-founder of the Bakery and Nikolina Glamoclija, Head of Digital Strategy & Propositions at LV= discussed how to organise effective agile networks that listen and respond to the biggest needs and expectations of customers and employees in the new normal.

Next, we heard from Sebastian Soithongsuk, Web Channel Deployment Manager, Customer Experience at GSK and Chiara Parodi, Service Design Manager at Vodafone who provided ideas on achieving different goals with the same facilities, and discussed how to organise an effective agile network.

How to become a successful TikTok brand – Session Report

In July 2020, members of the Digital Leadership Forum met over Zoom to discuss How to become a successful TikTok brand.

Representatives from leading organisations including Lloyds Banking Group, Unilever, GSK, Barclays, Octopus Investments, AXA PPP Healthcare, Dyson, Facebook, Baker McKenzie, BDO, Pfizer, BAE Systems, American Express, EDF Energy, Chaucer, Janus Henderson Investors, Clifford Chance, and many more discovered how to creatively connect with TikTok audiences around the world and engage with users who are at the forefront of latest trends and movements.

Attendees heard directly from a member of the TikTok creator community, Sherice Banton, who discussed how best to build brand partnerships, and explored how brands can best engage with TikTok. She explained that brands should think TikTok first, and advert second – sponsored adverts are likely to be unsuccessful if it is not natural to TikTok. Shanice then went on to explain that campaign briefs should be flexible and allow creators to put their own stamp on it.

We then heard from Inam Mahmood, Managing Director of Global Business Solutions at TikTok who provided valuable insights into TikTok stats and demographics – for example, Inam explained that the biggest growing TikTok audience right now is over 35’s. He also discussed TikTok advertising tools, such as in-feed videos, hashtag challenges, brand takeovers and the creator marketplace.

Representatives from leading organisations including Unilever, BAE Systems, Dell Technologies, Clifford Chance, Octopus Investments, GSK, EDF, G4S, BT, AXA PPP healthcare, BDO, Coutts, BPP University, Macmillan Cancer Support, Ofgem, Baillie Gifford, Chaucer Group, First Rate Exchange Services and many more gained insights from industry leaders and digital strategists on how to harness the power of digital technologies to drive transformation across their business, and how other leading organisations are reconfiguring their operations.

Rachel Higham, Managing Director of IT at BT and Stuart Alexander, Director – Consulting Services at FromHereOn began the session by discussing the essential strategies to jump-starting digital transformation in the current crisis.

Next, we heard from Robbie Hearn, Co-founder & CEO of Standing on Giants who shared insights into how to build a successful online community.

Other key themes explored during the session included the best guiding principles for accelerating end to end digitisation and driving the future of work, and which types of leadership are required to establish remote working through digital communication and collaboration tools.

In May 2020, members of the Digital Leadership Forum met over Zoom to discuss ‘How can AI & automation accelerate organisational change?

Representatives from leading organisations including Dell Technologies, Lloyds Banking Group, GSK, BT, AstraZeneca, EDF Energy, LV=, G4S, Pfizer, Baillie Gifford & Co, SGS, Chaucer Group, Clifford Chance and more explored how leading organisations can design better future performance and productivity through new automated technologies.

Attendees first heard from Adam Purcell, Product Owner for AI & Machine Intelligence at Lloyds Banking Group on how they are transforming the business through automation and designing machine learning outputs that genuinely enrich the power of a person.

Next, we heard from Ivana Bartoletti, Co-Founder of the Women Leading in AI network and author of An Artificial Revolution, who explored how a range of AI and automated technologies are generating real value for a cross section of leading industries.

Other key themes explored included AI in the COVID-19 era, the key principles of innovating with artificial intelligence, regulatory framework, privacy and ethics, and the essential skills for digital leaders to prosper in the age of AI, the importance of collaboration between humans and AI automation, and how humans are crucial for identifying important questions and powering AI with new talent and skillsets.

Competing in the Age of AI with Harvard Business School – Session Report

In May 2020, members of the Digital Leadership Forum met over Zoom to discuss Competing in the Age of AI with Harvard Business School.

Representatives from leading organisations including Lloyds Banking Group, BT, Dell Technologies, AstraZeneca, GSK, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Artificial Solutions, First Rate Exchange Services, Symanto and more brought their professional experiences and questions directly to the Founder of the Laboratory for Innovation Science at Harvard Business School.

Professor Karim Lakhani, Charles Edward Wilson Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School began the session by discussion the definition of AI, differentiating between ‘strong’ and ‘weak’ AI. Karim discussed examples of companies that adopted basic AI algorithms and applied it to other areas of their business to generate new business models.

He then went on to discuss an example of his own, where they used crowd-sourcing to generate algorithms to perform radiation-therapy targeting.

Attendees also learned about the importance of data and analytics as drivers of business and operating model transformation. Other key themes explored were the strategies and leadership necessary to reinvent organisations around data, analytics and AI.

Building Operational Resilience with Dell Technologies – Session Report

In May 2020, members of the Digital Leadership Forum met over Zoom to discuss Building Operational Resilience with Dell Technologies.

Representatives from leading organisations including Lloyds Banking Group, BT, Dell Technologies, HSBC, Refinitiv, Chaucer Group, First Rate Exchange Services, Suneratech, CBRE and more heard timely insights from cybersecurity experts at Dell Technologies on how to protect your business during unprecedented change.

Des O’Connor, Digital Strategy – Cyber Resiliency & Artificial Intelligence and Elizabeth Green, Cyber Resilience Specialist at Dell Technologies co-presented a piece exploring the unique cybersecurity opportunities and challenges facing organisations today and how you can optimize your strategy.

They explained that during this unprecedented time, business environments are less predictable and are changing rapidly which therefore poses new threats to businesses. In order to remain secure, you must continually assess the threat landscape to remain protected.

Attendees learned how to better protect their critical business data and assets and gained tips on optimizing and refining cybersecurity strategies, policies and procedures.

Enhancing Brand Narrative on YouTube – Session Report

In April 2020, members of the Digital Leadership Forum met over Zoom to discuss Enhancing Brand Narrative on YouTube.

Representatives from leading organisations including Lloyds Banking Group, BT, AstraZeneca, EDF Energy, LV=, G4S, SGS, FromHereOn and more gained insights into how leading brands become storytellers.

Yalın Solmaz, Co-Founder at Navivest began the session by defining the importance of Brand Narrative to an organisation. He explains that by taking control of your narrative you will prevent someone else building it for you.

He then shared insights into the importance of building an emotional connection with your customers, as people don’t buy the best product, they buy the best story.

Attendees heard how best to approach a content plan that is meaningful, sustainable and complementary to your paid marketing efforts. He suggests only creating content that is purposeful, authentic and empathetic. Yalın pointed out that companies should not be blinded by budget when creating content.

Other key themes explored were examples of other successful brands and their best practices around converting brand loyalty to revenue through content.

Transforming your organisation with design thinking – Session Report

In April 2020, members of the Digital Leadership Forum met over Zoom to discuss Transforming your organisation with design thinking.

Representatives from leading organisations including Dell Technologies, Lloyds Banking Group, GSK, BT, AXA PPP Healthcare, EDF Energy, LV=, G4S, Octopus Investments, BDO, Chaucer Group, Highways England and more gained insights on how to apply design-thinking to products, services and customer experience.

Key themes explored were how to better address the evolving needs of your customers by designing compelling products to differentiate your services and your company. Attendees also gained insights into how design thinking can be applied to systematically rework customer journeys.

Attendeees heard from Nawid Obaydi, Management Consultant at Chaucer Group who began the session by discussing the human-centered and collaborative approach to innovation through design led thinking, touching on the needs of people, the possibilities of technology, and the requirements for business success.

Next, we heard from Sandra Vickery, Senior UX/UI Design Manager at BT who touched on the 5 Why’s of problem solving when it comes to designing products and services, designing the right products for the right reasons, and finding the sweet spot between feasibility, viability and desirability.

The final presentation was brought to us by Lucia Abugattas, Employee Experience & Change Management Consultant, Formerly of ASOS who discussed the importance of employees within design thinking strategies.

The Future of Remote Working with The Financial Times – Session Report

In April 2020, members of the Digital Leadership Forum met over Zoom to discuss The Future of Remote Working with The Financial Times.

Representatives from leading organisations including Unilever, Dell Technologies, Lloyds Banking Group, GSK, Pfizer, BAE Systems, BT, LV=, Octopus Investments, BDO, BPP, Refinitiv, Chaucer Group, SGS and many more gained insights into the challenges and opportunities that remote working presents to UK businesses.

Andrew Hill, Associate Editor and Management Editor at the Financial Times began the session by discussing the practical challenges and technological capabilities employees are facing due to the enforced shift to remote working, such as sourcing equipment for employees to work from home.

He then discussed the effects of enforced home working alongside the importance of maintaining the mental health and motivation of teams, and how the use of technology can support employees in their work/life balance.

Other key themes explored, were recognising which elements of remote working could benefit businesses going forward, how the shift to digital working could accelerate the emergence of new business models for UK businesses and how to become a more productive remote worker.

In March 2020, members of the Digital Leadership Forum met over Zoom to discuss Advanced Analytics: Uncover new insights to boost performance.

Representatives from leading organisations including Unilever, Dell Technologies, Lloyds Banking Group, GSK, BAE Systems, BT, AXA PPP Healthcare, LV=, G4S, Octopus Investments, BDO, BPP, RSM UK, SGS, Chaucer Group, and many more heard how leading edge approaches to analytics and data sourcing can help improve the performance and accelerate growth of large organisations.

Key themes explored were advanced analytics and future skills, AI solutions within FinTech and RegTech spaces, and how data analytics platforms can support the growth and success of your organisation.

Attendees heard from BPP’s Market Intelligence Partner – David Palmer, and Head of Data Intelligence Viki Walker on preparing for the future of work and how advances in analytics are changing the future skills required for specific roles across leading industries.

We then heard from Zeeshan Anwar, Co-founder & Group CTO, Ai XPRT on AI for advanced analytics and how AI solutions can increase efficiency across top-tier banks, the big four accountancy companies and government.

The final presentation was brought to us by Babylon’s Executive Director – Partnerships & Alliances, Mike Head who discussed using data to deliver digital first healthcare.
